JOE
I am the owner of Joe Media Solutions.  I am self-employed as a graphic designer, specializing in corporate identity (logo) design, web design, and print design with the majority of my time spent designing and implementing marketing promotions for small businesses such as websites, programs, newsletters, pamphlets, business cards and more.

THE BUSINESS (HOW I GOT HERE)
I attended Franklin Pierce University (formally Franklin Pierce College), after a one-year stint at Johnson & Wales University, studying Communications with a Computer Science minor.  After college I went to work for a local insurance company where I worked my way up the corporate ladder. I learned an assortment of programming languages (Unix shell, C++, and Visual Basic) while supporting our company's Secure FTP Server.  At 28, I was promoted to Systems Support Supervisor, managing 13 employees.

I decided after several years with the company to start Joe Media Solutions, giving me the artistic freedom I always wanted.

THE LOGO
The name and logo have gone thru a few changes, the end result being what you see at the top of this web page.

When designing my logo I wanted to incorporate my initials (or as it turned out, one initial), while conveying the media theme of the company.  It was also important that the logo could stand alone for product branding and marketing (i.e.. t-shirts, business cards, car stickers, etc).

I went through many ideas and concepts but came up with a logo that takes the shape of your typical 'play' button icon (or right facing arrow) seen on most electronic devices.  The twist being the right facing arrow doubles as a crooked letter 'J' for Joe or Joe Media Solutions.  This satisfied my three main objectives:  1. Keeping with the media theme (i.e. play button style); 2. Incorporating my initials) with the crooked J; 3. The logo can stand alone.

The font I chose was Calibri.  The subtle rounded stems and corners create a warm and soft character to balance the edgy design.  The color {33,99,CC} is very easy on the eyes, especially integrated on a black landscape.

FREEDOM
When I'm not designing, I'm hanging out with my family and friends.  I am also the head coach of the varsity ice hockey team at a local high school.

Starting my own company gave me the opportunity to coach which, as a former player, was something I always wanted to do.  In 2009 we made it to the State Finals, losing 3-2 to Cheshire High School.  Despite the loss it was one of the most successful seasons in school history.  We won the inaugural Mayor's Cup, beating our cross town rival, and won our Conference Championship, finishing with a 19-6 record.  I'm very proud of all the players and what they accomplished that season.  It has been rewarding for me to give back to the community where I began my hockey career.
